The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls began in 1922 in McAlester, Oklahoma. The organization was created by Reverend Mark W. Sexson for girls between 11 and 20 to learn leadership skills, self-confidence, and provide community service. Every year, the California spends a year raising money for a statewide service project, with those monies being donated at the annual state convention. California Rainbow combines fun and learning leadership skills and public speaking skills while building confidence and self-respect. According to their mission statement, the Order of the Rainbow “strives to give girls the tools, training, and encouragement to let their individual spirits shine bright.”
